♠ —’Rough’ would be an understatement, but
such an experience was something that she’d
rather not speak about. Something she didn’t
want to even think about, quite honestly, though
such a thing was proving difficult. After all; ‘tough
times don’t last, tough people do’.Watching him, she regretted the word almost
as soon as she’d said it. Right then. And so,
rising her hand to hold his shoulder, squeezing
it once, she winced.
“——I… I’m sorry, Rick… I’m so sorry.”

everything was settled down and they had time for
it, when it wouldn’t weaken him. He had to be his
best, had to be stronger than the others. He took a
deep, needed breath and focused on anything other
than his daughter’s bloody baby carrier.
He acknowledged her kind gesture before returning
the subject back on to something that wasn’t based
around the people he had lost, the people that kept
him going.
